Lobbing for the library

May 24, 2023

MARION — Join the Sippican Tennis Club in Marion for its second charity tournament on Saturday, June 17.

The Sippican Open Charity Tennis Tournament supports local non-profits.

In 2019, the Sippican Open donated to the Marion Garden Group and this year’s beneficiary is the Elizabeth Taber Library, Mattapoisett Free Library and Plumb Memorial Library of Rochester.

The Sippican Open is a doubles tennis tournament open to the public. Over sixty participants are expected to play.

Participants can sign up with a partner and there are women’s, men’s and high school age flights. Prizes go to winners and refreshments are included.

There is a raffle to be announced at 2 p.m. as well.

After event expenses, the $85 entry fee will be donated to the Tri-Town libraries.

“Tennis players along the South Coast participate in this fun event to give back and have fun at the same time,” said Ed Shanaphy, Sippican Tennis Club director of tennis.

According to Elise Frangos, President of the Elizabeth Taber Library the funds collected from the event will be used to “enhance the youth book collections and create a cozier reading space for young readers.”

The rain date is Sunday June 18.
