Local historian to explain genealogy
The public is cordially invited to the Marion Music Hall at 7 p.m. on August 17 to enjoy Heritage Hunt: Researching Your Ancestry, featuring Lynda Ames. This educational program, sponsored by the Sippican Historical Society, is offered free and requires no reservations. Ms. Ames will share her vast knowledge of research methods both traditional and technological, and will include an online demonstration of how to utilize the many internet resources now available.
A historian and genealogical researcher for more than 30 years, Wareham native Lynda Ames has not only uncovered her own family history, but has assisted and encouraged many others in the same pursuit. During her years at the Wareham Free Library, she worked as research coordinator in the history room, directed a genealogy club and created a monthly “Memories” group to encourage town seniors to share their recollections of an earlier time and way of life. To raise both historic awareness and funds for the preservation of the Wareham Free Library archival collection, she co-authored the book, Images of America: Wareham.
In her quest to preserve the histories of local towns and their residents, Ms. Ames often lectures on obscure and forgotten events and most recently has written In the Dark Woods of Wareham: Murder of the Egg Man, the true tale of a heinous 1885 local murder. As co-owner of Family Routes Research Services, she and her partner offer their clients a wide variety of investigative options that can range from the simple ‘look-up’ of a vital record to proving one’s Mayflower line of ancestors.
