Manning wins second pro MMA fight

Jimmy “The Tooth” Manning secured his second win as a pro MMA fighter on Saturday, taking down David McClendon in a quick 1-minute, 38-second fight.

Manning, a Marion resident and ORR graduate, is 2-0 in his professional career, and said he owes much of his success to his coach, Bill Mahoney.

“I trust him with everything,” Manning said. “Whatever he says, I’m gonna do.”

Formerly an amateur fighter, Manning temporarily retired from the sport for personal reasons a few years ago, but he always planned to jump back in the ring. He won his first professional fight last November at Plymouth’s Cage Titans and returned to the venue to face off against McClendon on Saturday.

“He was a lot stronger than I thought he was going to be,” said Manning. “He’s a tough dude that’s been in far more fights than I have.”

But the seasoned fighter couldn’t stand up to Manning, who has been training almost non-stop.

“I like to get in there, and I really like to initiate the combat right away,” he said. “I’m not afraid of too much once I go up the steps. I like to go in and force the action.”

Manning plans to step back from intense training until four to six weeks before his next fight, which will likely be at Cage Titans in April.

“I’m riding high. The ball is rolling and let’s keep it moving,” he said.
