Marion appoints first fireworks committee member

Aug 3, 2021

MARION — Work to get a Fourth of July fireworks display for 2022 has already begun.

The town has appointed its first member to the 2022 fireworks committee, after missing the fireworks display in 2021.

The Select Board unanimously appointed David Brissette to the fireworks committee at an Aug. 3 meeting.

“It’s something that always brought my family out,” Brissette said of the town’s Fourth of July fireworks.

Brissette, a combat veteran, said he decided to apply for appointment after he saw Facebook posts noting the town was in need of members for the committee.

“It’s really a matter of me being willing to give it a shot if no one else wants to stand up,” he said.

Brissette, as the sole current member of the committee, will be tasked with helping find further committee members.

“We’ll get you a group of people to help you and you can work as a team,” Town Administrator Jay McGrail said.

McGrail added that the town doesn’t expect Brissette to have to work alone for long, and that ex-committee members would be a good place to start looking for members.

“Welcome to town government,” McGrail said.
