Marion Art Center celebrates ‘modern art’ with Summer Members Show

Sep 3, 2012

With 100 pieces of original artwork ranging from still life to mixed media, the Marion Art Center welcomed the start of the annual Summer Members Show last week.

“There are a range of mediums used,” said Art Center staff member Diane Cook. “The artists used pastels, acrylics, oil, woodcarvings, paper, mixed media – it’s all here.”

Each year, the Art Center hosts two member-only shows. The first is held in the winter and the second runs in the dog days of summer.

Titled “Small Works,” the current exhibition, which will run until October 3, allows members to submit two pieces to be displayed both galleries of the Art Center as well as at the town’s General Store.

The show, which Cook described as “a touch of modern art,” has been a great success for the artists.

To date, the Art Center has sold 11 pieces with more offers coming in daily, Cook said.

“The show has been extremely well received by people,” Cook said. “It’s not your typical gallery show, but it’s a wonderful opportunity for our members to get in a show, to do great art and play ball with the big guys.”
