Marion Art Center works to start plays again

MARION — The Art Center will hold open auditions for all roles in the upcoming production of “Good People,” written by David Lindsay-Abaire and directed by Jacob Sherburne.
Auditions will be held on June 14 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. by scheduled appointment at the Marion Art Center at 80 Pleasant Street or by Zoom.
Social distancing will be observed for actors who audition in-person, and they should wear a mask. Actors should also bring any monologue or scene, or ask for sides when requesting an audition. A reader will be provided on audition day.
Performances are currently scheduled for Aug. 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23. All Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees will begin at 2 p.m.
In the comedy, single-mom Margie just got fired from another job and is struggling to make ends meet. Encouraged by her bingo sisters, she looks up her highschool sweetheart to see if the dust has cleared, and she can make her escape.
Sherburne will cast four women and two men (Some roles may be cast in drag): Margie - White, Portuguese or Latinx, female-identifying. Young mother who has gotten old quick. Angry, loving, tired, excitable. Boston/New Beige accent. Big plus if you are good at Bingo; Jean — White, Portuguese or Latinx, female-identifying. Margie’s forever friend. Boston/New Beige accent. Cruel and loyal. Big plus if you are good at Bingo; Dottie — White, Portuguese or Latinx, female-identifying. Margie’s fair-weather friend. Must play 60+ years old. Boston/New Beige accent. Good at Bingo; Mike — White, Portuguese or Latinx, male-identifying. Local man-boy who made it good. New money. Chip on his shoulder, married-ish. Father. Boston/New Bedford accent; Kate - Black or Latinx, female-identifying. She has Michelle Obama’s book and listens to Taylor Swift and Bach. Married to Mike. Mother; Stevie: Any race, male-identifying. Boyish, Boston/New Beige accent. Not super pleased to be in charge. Good at Bingo.
