Marion Boy Scout embarks on Eagle project

Sep 28, 2015

This weekend, Life Scout Jack Nakashian of Troop 32 started the first phase of his Eagle project – a 180-foot elevated walkway on the White Eagle Trail.

Owned by the Sippican Land Trust, the property is located at the end of Parlowtown Road in Marion. Nakashian, 10 Scouts and adult volunteers cut back vegetation in an area that is frequently too wet for walking.

The project began after Nakashian approached the Sippican Land Trust in hopes of finding a project that would both help the group while meeting his Eagle rank requirement.

Yelena Sheynin, head steward of the Sippican Land Trust, suggested the project.

After receiving approval from the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Nakashian approached the United Way to secure funding for construction materials required. The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of November.
