Marion COA gives away free pies, flowers to local seniors

MARION — Though covid has put a wrinkle in their holiday plans for the past two years, the Marion Council on Aging still found a way to brighten up the season for local seniors with a Pie and Poinsettias giveaway on Dec. 11.

COA Director Karen Gregory said that 100 people registered to receive the pairing of festive flowers and an apple or pumpkin pie, and as of Monday, Dec. 13, all of them had been picked up or delivered.

“It put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces,” she said, adding her thanks to the Marion Fire Association, the Marion Police Brotherhood, Tabor Academy, the Select Board and Town administration for helping with the event. “It was really a community effort.”

Gregory said the COA usually does a holiday luncheon that serves over 100 people, but since covid began, it hasn’t been feasible.

“It just doesn’t seem safe,” she said.
