Aug 27, 2020

MARION — The Council on Aging will host a historical presentation, meal and music in September and a new yard sale in October.

On Sept. 10 the Council on Aging will welcome guitarist Chris Carter to perform for seniors over lunch. From noon to 1 p.m. he will play, while seniors munch on BLT sandwiches. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Sign ups began Aug. 27.

Seniors may also take lunch to go. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled.

On Sept. 21 historian Sheryl Faye will give another online lecture on Susan B. Anthony, the women’s rights activist, who devoted her life to racial, gender and educational equality. She played a prominent role in the women’s suffrage movement, the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote and  was in support of women’s labor organizations and their right to own property.

In 2020, Susan B. Anthony would have turned 200.

The lecture will be broadcast at 1 p.m. on Marion’s Public Service YouTube Channel. To find it, go to the town website https://www.marionma.gov/ and scroll to the bottom of the page. Under “connect with us” click on “YouTube,”

The Friends of the Marion Council on Aging will hold their First Annual Yard Sale on Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are now accepting donations for the sale. Organizers cannot accept furniture, and only consider select electronics.

The rain date for the event is Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In case of inclement weather on Oct. 11, the sale will be held on Oct.12 at the same time.
