Marion election recount confirms initial results
Wednesday’s recount of Marion’s School Committee election did not change the race results, as incumbent Christine Winters remains the winner.
Fellow incumbent Michelle Ouellette challenged the election results after it appeared she lost by a single vote in a three-way race for two seats.
The recount showed that Winters earned 480 votes to Ouellette’s 471. The initial results had awarded Winters the same number of votes, but indicated Ouellette had 479 votes.
Newcomer Kate Houdelette was the top vote-getter, winning her seat with 593 votes.
Winters said the recount went "smoothly" and was confident that the committee could move forward knowing the results were not in question.
"I look forward to serving," Winters said.
Ouellette, who is active in other school groups and St. Gabriel’s Church, said she would continue to volunteer.
“I’m not done in general,” Ouellette said. “There are other things I’m going to do in town. I’m not going away.”
