Marion Fourth of July parade cancelled

Jun 2, 2020

MARION — Due to coronavirus restrictions, the town’s Fourth of July parade has been cancelled, and the town will instead release a video montage of past parades with the help of ORCTV.

Donna Hemphill, a member of the Fourth of July parade committee, said at a June 2 Selectmen’s meeting that she “wishes there was a way” to hold the parade, but it is difficult to do so with social distancing measures in place.

Instead, the committee will work with ORCTV to make a video of past parades clips for residents so that they have a “nice little something to watch on the morning of the fourth,” Hemphill said.

She will also work with fellow committee member Jody Dickerson to make sure town decorations look even better this year.

The decision didn’t come lightly either. In researching with Hemphill, Town Administrator Jay McGrail said that they couldn’t find any town that was holding a parade.

Selectmen agreed with the decision.
