Marion fundraiser collects 182 'chemo caps'

Nov 28, 2012

For a child undergoing chemotherapy, a cap can go a long way.

Last weekend, Sharon Morais, a Wareham resident and founder of the charity Chemo Caps 4 Kids, held a fundraiser at the Hangman Coffee Hut in Marion.

Morais, a personal health and wellness coach, collected 182 caps for patients undergoing chemotherapy and $192 for the Berkley-based charity Kids Kickin' Cancer Foundation.

Morais began collecting caps in September 2011 in memory of Hailey Jean Pease. Pease was just 8-years-old when she lost her battle with leukemia last July.

"Since the event, I have collected even more hats making it to my thousand-cap goal," Morais said.

Since September 2011, Morais said she has collected $1,322. Of that amount, she said $500 is the minimum that will go towards one child battling cancer.

Morais said she will continue to collect caps at the Hangman Coffee Hut in Marion as well as at Thomas Michaels Kitchens and the Old Company Store of Wareham.
