Marion groups launch new recycling program for village
Two town groups and one lifelong resident have launched a new recycling program in the village.
Through the efforts of the Marion Tree and Parks Committee, the Department of Public Works and Mark Milhench, three trash/recycling stations have been installed.
The stations accept trash in one bin and plastics, glass and other recyclables in the other. They replace wooden recycling bins that were donated by local Boy Scouts 10 years ago.
“This is the start of a long-term effort to upgrade our recycling efforts in the whole town,” said Tinker Saltonstall, a Tree and Parks Committee member.
The bins can be found in front of the Sippican Historical Society, Dean Ross Home on Front Street and the Music Hall.
“It is the hope of the Tree and Parks Committee and the Marion Department of Public works that townspeople and visitors will take advantage of the new receptacles to help create a cleaner, greener environment,” said Historical Society Executive Director Kimberly Teeves.
There are plans to install more bins around town in the coming months, Saltonstall said. Future bins will have to be paid for with money approved at Town Meeting.
Milhench of the Milhench Supply Company sold the initial bins to the Department of Public Works at a discount.
