Marion makes changes to Town Party to avoid EEE cancellation
The Marion Town Party will return this year, after a cancellation due to the mosquito-borne illness EEE, last year. Its planning committee (from the Marion Firefighters Association and the Harbormaster’s Department) has decided to plan the party earlier in the day to avoid having to cancel. The party will be at a new venue and have a new start time as well.
The party will be at Silvershell Beach from 2 p.m. until dusk on Saturday, August 22.
There will be a Touch a Truck event to kick off the party that will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on the field at Silvershell Beach. Fire, Police, Harbormaster and other vehicles will be on
hand.
Other activities include a carabiner’s rock wall, inflatable games and face painting. All activities are free.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase beginning at 2 p.m. All proceeds are for local community and departmental needs. Night Flight Music and DJ Gary Seed will play at the event.
The Town Party organizers are seeking corporate sponsors. Sponsorship is an opportunity for local businesses to get the word out and advertise. More details about the sponsorship
levels will be available soon.
Community donations are also needed to help underwrite the event. Food, services, cash or any other in-kind donation would be greatly appreciated. All contributions are tax deductible.
