These programs are for small groups, and registration is limited to 15 children per session. To register for any of the programs, go to www.marionmuseum.org, fill out the registration and submit with payment. For more information, call the museum at 508-748-2098.
July 20: Explore freshwater ecosystems at Washburn Park. The kids will explore vernal pools, woods and bogs as they look at plants and soils, netting amphibians and fish, birds and signs of other wildlife.
July 27: Naturalists from Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife will give an introduction to coastal birds in the area, including information on how naturalists have improved the nesting habitat for the Roseate Terns in town. The event includes a trip to Bird Island, courtesy of Marion Harbormaster’s office and lead naturalist Carolyn Mostello.
Aug. 3: Explore summer constellations with the museum’s portable star lab planetarium. There will be an opportunity to work with the star lab instructor to learn how to identify some of the features of the nighttime summer sky.
Aug. 6: Create a nature journal with educator Tricia Cassidy, an artist and naturalist. Observation is a key attribute of citizen scientists, and a necessary ability for all who enjoy the out of doors and the natural world. Nature Journaling is a way to observe and document nature experiences.
Aug. 10: Learn the art of observation with artist and naturalist Tricia Cassidy and make a small sketchbook. Kids will then go outside to learn different ways to observe and draw from nature.
Aug. 17: Kids will make artwork from nature after collecting interesting items during a hike around town.
