Marion officials laud storm cleanup efforts
Selectmen praised the town’s emergency management team Tuesday night for performing admirably during a historic storm that walloped the region on Jan. 27
“Overall, I can report that the emergency planning operations, plowing operations and everything else went off very, very well,” Dawson told Selectmen on Tuesday night.
Ahead of the storm, Police Chief Lincoln Miller and the town’s emergency management team reviewed protocol for a worst-case scenario.
Originally, widespread and long-term power outages were predicted.
“We reviewed our policies and went over how to proceed in case the town’s shelter needed to be opened,” Dawson said. “We were thoroughly prepared for that.”
Fortunately, the shelter at Sippican School wasn’t needed.
Forty-five percent of town residents experienced power outages on Jan. 27, but none all were under three hours. Dawson said NSTAR identified the problem early and made the necessary repairs.
Dawson commended the town departments for working together throughout the storm.
“All of the department heads worked cooperatively,” he said. “There was high praise from the community as well. Whatever needed to be done got done.”
