Marion receives FEMA reimbursement

May 2, 2012

Nearly eight months following Hurricane Irene, the town of Marion has been reimbursed $81,804 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for expenses incurred during the storm.

In an April 27 letter addressed to the Board of Selectmen, Police Chief Lincoln Miller informed the town’s officials of the reimbursement.

Miller stated, “I would like to extend my thanks to Finance Director/Town Accountant Judy Mooney for all her hard work in navigating through the federal reimbursement process over the past several months.”

In November, Miller said the “many” reports involved in the reimbursement process were in good shape. He added that the town would likely receive 75 percent, or $85,000, that was spent clearing the debris left in the storm’s wake.

Town Administrator Paul Dawson commended both Miller and Judy Miller for their diligence in finalizing all of the reports.

“Judy Mooney worked really hard on this,” Dawson said. “The federal government’s and FEMA’s process of reimbursement while effective, is very cumbersome. In the end it was a job well done by Police Chief Miller and Mooney.”
