The Town of Marion has received $22,688 from a Community Compact Information Technology Grant.

According to a press release from Senator Marc Pacheco, the towns of Marion, Carver, Bridgewater, and Raynham received a total of $245,688 from the grants that are meant to enhance local information technology infrastructure.

“Community Compact IT grants will help towns enhance local services by upgrading systems, expanding coverage areas, and streamlining processes. Ultimately, these funds will empower local governments to weigh options based on overall merit and long-term value instead of affordability alone. I’d like to convey my sincere appreciation and congratulations to all those at the local level who contributed to this successful round of applications,” Pacheco said.

The Town of Marion plans to allocate grant resources to transition its building department to an on-line system for receiving building applications, collecting payments, scheduling inspections and issuing permits. This system will include document management software that can process permit applications on the computer, store them on a cloud, and automatically generate report summaries arranged by date.

Marion Town Administrator James McGrail said that he was excited to start the online permitting process because it will improve accessibility for residents, and keep things more organized for town employees.
