Marion Selectman Jon Henry says he will not seek re-election
Four-term Selectman Jon Henry announced on Tuesday he will not seek another term in the May town election.
Henry made the announcement near the end of the board’s meeting saying the decision came with “mixed feelings.”
“It was a difficult decision,” he said.
With 12 years of experience, Henry is the current board’s longest serving member.
He noted that on Jan. 1 he turned 70 and planned “to do a few different things with the time that is allocated to me. Hopefully I’ll live to be a 100.”
Henry said the help and guidance he received starting out on the board was welcome. After listing some former Selectmen he’s served alongside, Henry said: “Everybody taught me a lot along the way.”
His fellow Selectmen, Jody Dickerson and Chair Stephen Cushing, wished Henry well.
“Jon, I’ve enjoyed working with you,” Dickerson said. “We may not always agree, but we’ve always been complete gentlemen.”
Henry agreed, saying the three board members have worked well together through the years.
“It’s been my pleasure to work with you guys too,” Henry said. “It’s been fun. We’ve been able to have some lighter moments I guess.”

The position became vacant following Isaac Perry’s promotion to harbormaster late last year. Perry noted that Murphy has all of the certifications required by the state to serve.
“He’s more than capable to do the job,” Cushing said.
