Marion Selectmen appoint new Assistant Harbormaster
Rochester resident Adam Murphy was appointed by the Marion Selectmen as the town's new Assistant Harbormaster and Shellfish Officer.
Of Murphy’s qualifications, Harbormaster Mike Cormier said, “I’ve been working with him for 20 years and I feel that he would be an asset to my department.”
Murphy, who also works for the town’s Fire Department, will work a few nights a week part-time for the Harbormaster Department. Cormier added that Murphy would be a seasonal employee, working from just May through September.
The Selectmen raised some concern that a conflict may arise if he was on duty for the Harbormaster Department but was needed by the Fire Department in the event of an emergency. However, Cormier said that other firefighters have worked for him previously and a conflict never arose.
The Selectmen unanimously approved Murphy's appointment on Tuesday night.
