Marion Selectmen approve Town Meeting agenda
Marion Selectmen formally approved the Annual Town Meeting warrant at their meeting Tuesday night. This year, it contains 32 agenda items on everything from capital requests to funding related to the town's wastewater treatment plant lagoons.
In its current form, Marion's proposed fiscal year 2017 budget is balanced, and reflects an increase of 3.23 percent from last year, Acting Town Administrator Judy Mooney said at the meeting.
This budget takes into account Marion's share of Old Rochester Regional's $17.6 million FY 2017 budget, which was approved on Monday. Sippican School has yet to finalize its budget for next year, but it currently is expected to increase by 3.94 percent, Mooney said.
"We've been conservative on estimates as usual. We don't have a lot of extra revenues in there, but I think the departments have been really good and diligent at working with the Finance Committee," said Mooney.
The town warrant articles include several requests to fund capital projects, in addition to typical articles related to compensating balances, stabilization and funding overhead liability to help with the town's bond rating.
Other articles include a $1.5 million request for permit and design improvements for the town's wastewater treatment plant lagoons, as well as $630,000 to replace Mary's Pond Well. Another new agenda item would create a revolving fund for the Marion Recreation Department, which would allow the recreation director, Jody Dickerson, to collect fees and cover expenses.
The agenda also includes a ballot question determining whether Marion include a debt exclusion in the form of a $603,000 bond to cover capital improvements approved by Old Rochester Regional School District. Read more about the proposal here.
The Annual Town Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m.
