Marion Selectmen prepare final sale of property to Habitat for Humanity

Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity’s plans to build a home in Marion got another boost from the Selectmen on Tuesday night.

The Selectmen gave town attorney Jon Witten the OK to negotiate with Habitat and finalize the sale of the 19,000 square-foot lot at 185 Wareham Road.

George McTurk, President of Habitat’s Board of Trustees, said he was anxious to get the deed transferred over from the town to Habitat.

“We’re very interested in having a ‘go ahead’ before the weather turns,” McTurk said. “We rely on volunteer labor and we do it on the weekends.”

Habitat first proposed to build the home in 2009, and after a series of modifications to the site plans, the group received Town Meeting approval to move forward in May.

McTurk said he was hoping to have the foundation laid by Labor Day weekend.
