Marion Selectmen seek water assessment grant
Marion officials have applied for a grant worth $50,000 to partially fund an assessment of the town’s wastewater treatment facility.
If awarded, the Water Infrastructure Assessment and Planning Grant money would be used to lessen the cost of an $150,000 assessment, which will be on the Annual Town Meeting agenda.
As part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Capacity, Management, Operation and Maintenance Program, the town must assess how it handles water, including pipes, treatment and storage infrastructure.
If awarded, the grant would include $40,000 in funds and $10,000 worth of in-kind services to help pay for the assessment.
Selectmen approved a motion to pursue the grant Friday afternoon. Board members learned about the opportunity on Feb. 25.
