Marion Town House basement repairs move forward

Jan 23, 2013

Repairs to the Marion Town House basement are well underway as officials try to sort out a water infiltration issue.

On Tuesday, Town Administrator Paul Dawson said that an engineer suggested the water problem in the building’s basement was caused by the weather rather than with ground water.

“The windows are not great. The engineer has attributed the water infiltration to the wind,” Dawson said. “We’re still trying to figure it out.”

In November, Special Town Meeting approved $26,500 for mold remediation services in the building’s basement.

Since then, officials have been clearing out and sorting all of the materials in the basement including archives.

Dawson commended Norman Hills of the Conservation Commission and Rob Zora Superintendent of the Department of Public Works for helping to clean out the basement.

“It took a lot of cataloguing, a lot of sorting, a lot of moving,” Dawson said. “There was a lot of stuff down there.”

With the basement now completely cleared out, Dawson said officials will continue to try to resolve the water infiltration problem.
