Marion turkey trotters dash to the finish line

Nov 18, 2018

MARION — It didn’t take long for some runners to start pulling away from the pack on a cool, sunny day at the annual Marion Turkey Trot 5k.

At the outset of the run, a long line of participants stretched along a segment of Front Street. From solo runners to families and fluffy canines, 146 Turkey Trot participants navigated this year’s course in support of Marion Recreation.

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit Marion Recreation programs and events. Past events raised funds to purchase new equipment, expand and update playgrounds, update facilities and offer financial assistance to participants who qualify.

Zachary Bentley, 20, was the first runner to cross the finish line and completed the course after 17 minutes and eight seconds. Bentley is from Acushnet and currently competes for the men’s cross country team at Westfield State.

Graham Poirier of Marion, 19, landed in second place, finishing with a time of 19 minutes and 32 seconds. The third place finisher was Marion resident Mark Comorosky, who finished at 20 minutes and 33 seconds.

The first female participant to complete the course was Marion resident Lauren Fereshetian at 21 minutes and 26 seconds.

Other notable runners were those competing under the age of 18, including 14-year-old Rochester native Sean Lund who came in eighth place. Siblings Olivia and Molly Morgan, ages 9 and 6 respectively, finished the course with their parents in the top 50.
