Marion voters require residents to obtain liquor license to drink on the beach
Nov 27, 2012
Drinking alcohol on a Marion beach is now permissible, so long as you have a license.
On Monday night, Special Town Meeting unanimously granted the Selectmen power to review all requests to consume alcohol on the beach and to grant a one-day liquor license if the officials deem it appropriate.
Previously, the bylaw had prohibited alcohol from being served on town beaches.
“The Selectmen are asked from time to time to allow alcohol consumption on the beach for private parties, but the bylaws force the Selectmen to deny this request,” said Selectmen Jody Dickerson.
Once a request has been approved, Dickerson said that the Selectmen will then ensure that town departments, including the police, are notified.
