Marion wins national ‘Quality in Construction’ award

Dec 20, 2023

MARION — The town of Marion was recognized by the National Asphalt and Pavement Association for its work on the County Road roadway project, announced Marion Town Administrator Geoff Gorman at a Dec. 19 Select Board meeting.

The Association gave Marion the 2023 Quality in Construction award which is “one of the most highly-regarded road construction awards,” according to a statement read by Gorman.

“I want to give a ‘great job’ to the [Marion] Department of Public Works, specifically Meghan Davis [and] Jodi Dickerson,” said Gorman.

Along with the award, the National Asphalt and Pavement Association will send a commemorative plaque to the town.

“What are we supposed to do with this plaque?” Asked Marion Select Board member Norm Hills.

“I’m going to give it to [Marion Department of Public Works Director Rebecca Tilden] and she can put it up somewhere,” said Gorman. “It was nice to be recognized. I know that [Davis] and [Dickerson] do a lot of work to make sure these projects run smoothly.”

According to the National Asphalt and Pavement Association, Quality in Construction awards “recognize high-quality highway asphalt paving projects” by measuring “quantifiable data in four categories – gradation, AC content, air voids, and density … All projects that meet benchmark scores are awarded with a Quality in Construction Award.”
