Mattapoisett Council on Aging announces program schedule

The Mattapoisett Council on Aging has a full schedule of events and educational opportunities to engage almost every interest. Call 508-758-4110 for additional information or to suggest an activity.

Arts and Crafts:

  • Knitting: This weekly group knits, socializes and learns new techniques. This free event meets on Mondays at 10 a.m.
  • Watercolor Painting: New and experienced painters share techniques and enjoy camaraderie while they paint. Classes are Tuesdays at 1 p.m. for $3.

Games:

  • Scrabble: Friendly games are available for any player’s speed. Games are free on Mondays at 1 p.m.
  • Bingo: This classic game is offered at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays with a fee per card.
  • Mahjong: Mahjong is a traditional Chinese game played by four people around a square table. The game is played with tiles rather than cards. Games are free and start at 1:30 on Wednesdays.
  • Wii: Enjoy indoor bowling, tennis, baseball and more with Wii video games. Bring a friend or compete against others in the room!

Education:

  • Speaker Series: Once a month (or more) a special topic will be offered.  Lunch is available for $3. The series is Tuesdays at noon.
  • Health Fair: On Wednesday, June 20 the Council on Aging will host a health fair. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with free admission and refreshments.

Entertainment:

  • Live entertainers will perform at the Council on Aging most Thursdays. Call for more information.
  • Monthly movies: Movies are shown the last Tuesday of each month and alternate between a modern academy-nominated film with pizza and a classic movie with popcorn. Movies are at 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. Call the Council for details.

Assistance:

  • An outreach worker is available to guide seniors through applications for fuel assistance, food and other needs. They can also recommend long and short-term care resources.
  • A SHINE Counselor (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders) is available to assist with Medicare, Mass Health, Prescription Advantage and more.

Transportation: Go shopping, go to lunch, go sightseeing and more. Van transportation services are available for daily errands or for special trips. Call the center for more info.
