Mattapoisett votes cast in the state primary held Sept. 9 have not yet been certified due to an error made by Town Clerk Catherine Heuberger.

At the Selectmen’s Sept. 23 meeting, Heuberger told board members that information related to the election was not properly posted and because of that a special certification process is required.

“It was a rookie mistake,” Heuberger said. “It won’t happen again.”

Heuberger was elected town clerk in May.

Town Administrator Mike Gagne presented a letter to Chair Paul Silva for his signature. The letter will then be sent to State Representative William Strauss and State Senator Marc Pacheco to sign.

After that, the request for special certification of election results will be sent to Gov. Deval Patrick for final approval.
