Mattapoisett experiences string of thefts
The public is asked to keep an eye out for suspicious behavior following several acts of vandalism and thefts on town property this summer.
At Tuesday’s Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Mike Gagne said two cast iron sinks and parts of a new swing were stolen from the beach house at Town Beach in June. Last week, someone stole a 10-foot section of copper downspout from Center School.
Additionally, Gagne said he was informed on Tuesday that vandals knocked over and broke 11 headstones at Cushing Cemetery.
So far, there are no leads on the crimes, said Gagne. He asked the public to report anything that looks odd to police.
“We need to be more proactive,” said Gagne. “If people see anything suspicious, please just call the Police Department. I’ve got to believe we can stop this spring of vandalism and thievery.”
