Mattapoisett Farmers Market features fresh faces
Tri-town residents came out on a particularly nice Tuesday afternoon for the start of the annual Mattapoisett Farmers Market.
Located on the grounds of the Old Rochester Regional Junior High, the market welcomed some new faces to this year’s lineup, which will grow as produce comes into season.
Laura Bailey of Beaches Baking Company, based in Lakeville, set up her booth of fresh baked goods and mixes for the first time in Mattapoisett. Her specialty?
“My soon to be famous PMS bar,” said Bailey, a pastry chef. Bailey said co-workers asked for her oatmeal-based bars, which now include caramel and chocolate-chocolate varieties, month after month.
And after one woman called them PMS bars, the name stuck.
Dan McCormick, of Proofed Artisan and Traditional Breads, also tried out the market for the first time on Tuesday.
Based in Providence, McCormick sells a variety of breads, including asiago cheese bread and cinnamon pull apart bread (just try making it home without nibbling.)
A massage therapist by trade, McComiskey’s freshly made bread is kneaded by hand. “It’s nothing you’re going to find in a store,” said McComiskey.
Local favorites Cervelli Farm and Englenook Farm, both of Rochester, and Westport’s Skinny Dip Farm were also on hand with fresh ingredients.
Choosing a dozen eggs from Englenook Farm, Rochester resident Michele Cusolito said, “I’m so glad it’s farmers market time!”
The farmers market will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the summer.
