Mattapoisett Free Public Library November programs

Nov 4, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Free Public Library will be hosting a multitude of events in the month of November.

On Thursday, Nov. 12 at 3:30 p.m., the library will host an interactive program through Zoom to learn about sound. Students will explore the physics of sound transmission and creation. Concepts like vibration, frequency (pitch), sound waves, and even the transmission of sound waves will all be addressed. Students will feel the sound of their own name, explore sounds made by simple household objects, and build their own simple instrument.

This is an interactive program. Students will need two to three metal spoons of different sizes, four to five inches of string, a plastic cup and two to three elastic bands to participate. If participants don’t have the necessary materials, they can contact the library for assistance. Registration is required at mattapoisettlibrary.org under the events calendar.

In addition the library has many other programs including:

For the November story walk, students can enjoy “In November” by Cynthia Rylant while taking a walk around the library to hear a gentle story about November.

From Nov. 3 to 17, students can pick up a pasta snail curbside craft. From Nov. 17 to 29, they can make Thanksgiving crowns.
Online registration required for craft kits. Library will reach out to participants for a pick up time after registration.

Virtual Story time with Miss Chris will be on Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required.

During the month of November, drop off a card or pick up our card making kit by Nov. 30 to make a card for the town’s firefighters. The library be delivering the cards to the Mattapoisett Fire Department to show gratitude to the town’s essential workers.
