Mattapoisett gears up for Holiday in the Park
Mattapoisett’s annual Holiday in the Park is coming soon, and this year there will be a not-so-little something new.
“We’re going to have a big ‘Alice in Wonderland’ chair so people can take a photo in it,” said Mel Pacheco, who has organized the event for almost 30 years.
The chair belongs to Dan White, the town’s media manager, and was a bridal gift for his daughter, said Pacheco. She will soon take ownership of the chair, but White offered it up to the town for the Dec. 12 tree lighting at Shipyard Park.
The rest of the event will be much like it is each year, said Pacheco.
“It just gets bigger and bigger. It’s a great town festivity,” she said. “I enjoy it and I do it for the children.
As always, Santa will be there to hear what’s on the wishlist for each child in Mattapoisett, local eateries will provide a buffet of snacks and there will be music by the Showstoppers. Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman will also be around for photos and hi-fives, and the Christmas tree will be lit around dusk.
Pacheco, who is also the assistant to the town administrator, said the celebration should be fun, and hopefully there will be “a little snow and off we go.”
The event begins at 3 p.m. at Shipyard Park.
