Mattapoisett gets into the holiday spirit

Dec 9, 2012

Mattapoisett was holiday central on Saturday! The day started with members of the Mattapoisett Land Trust putting Salty the Seahorse's red holiday hat on for another year.

At the Mattapoisett Library, Friends and Junior Friends of the Library helped kids decorate gingerbread houses (little ones got "pre-fab" houses) with sugary treats.

Later in the afternoon, the Boy Scouts of Troop 53 sold wreaths at Town Hall, and the day finished with the annual Holiday in the Park at Shipyard Park.

Hundreds filled the park to listen to Christmas songs, munch on food from local vendors, and chat with Santa and Mrs. Claus. After dusk, everyone gathered around the tree for a countdown as Selectmen turned on the lights.
