Mattapoisett Historical Society welcomes New Bedford Sea Chantey Chorus April 29
The Mattapoisett Historical Society will host the New Bedford Sea Chantey Chorus for an afternoon of music on Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m.
The New Bedford Sea Chantey Chorus will visit the Mattapoisett Museum and Carriage House on 5 Church Street to regale their audience with a variety of chanteys and songs that reflect the maritime heritage of New Bedford and Mattapoisett.
Hosted and organized by the Schooner Ernestina, the chorus has over 40 members with a repertoire that includes the chanteys (work songs) of the Yankee sailor and whaler, along with the ballads and ditties of global mariners and coastwise fisherfolk in North America, the Cape Verde Islands and the British Isles. The group also sings choral music.
