Mattapoisett kids show off their moves at an end-of-summer party

Aug 6, 2021

MATTAPOISETT — The sound of children singing and colorful maracas shaking filled the air at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library on Aug. 6.

Children who participated in the library’s summer reading program came together to celebrate their reading accomplishments.

“We put on this party to celebrate the program coming to an end,” said children’s librarian Chris Matos. She said 198 children participated in the program.

The library brought Backyard Band Jams, who put on an interactive music education show for families. The program was led by Rhonda Matson, who has been an early childhood music specialist for over 18 years.  She is the owner and director of South Coast Music Together.

Matson taught the children the difference between music and pulse by singing different songs.  Some of those songs included: “Cat and the Fiddle” and “BINGO.”  She had also read and sang different storybooks to the children.

After the Backyard Band Jams,  the library celebrated with ice cream and popsicle sticks.  Then they finished off the event with raffle prizes.

On Aug. 13,  Matos will be holding a storytime related to sharks.  For more information on the event, head to https://www.mattapoisettlibrary.org.
