Sep 23, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Public Library will host a variety of spooky teen events in October.

Teens can visit the library on Friday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. for a Halloween Mask craft. Librarians will provide all of the materials and some templates. The event is recommended for ages 12 and up. Register by Sept. 27.

Every Wednesday in October, starting Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. the Mattapoisett Free Public Library will host a Mad Scientist Laboratory. Students ages 12 can watch ghoulish experiments in the name of science. The first Wednesday the library will make magnetic slime. Students will learn about slime, create their own, and test the limits of its magnetism. Please register by Sept. 27. On Oct. 16 teens can create pumpkin catapults to learn about physics. The catapult that sends a pumpkin the farthest will win a prize and bragging rights.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23 young scientists will explore exothermic reactions. The last Mad Scientist session (Oct. 30) will teach about heart anatomy and give teens the chance to dissect a gelatin heart.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, students aged 12 and up are invited to Teens Cook: Halloween candy. At this program, cooks will be making a simple dish out of Halloween candy. Register by Oct. 12, as space is limited.

Teens ages 12 and up can read their favorite scary story, or share one that they have written on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. Sign up for a ten minute slot to read a story, and the best and scariest one will win a prize. Refreshments will be served. Registration will be open up until time of event.

Craft Tuesdays continues every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. No registration is required for the event. The library’s Take Apart Table continues every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come by to see what’s inside common electronics. The library will host Game Lounge sessions on Oct. 2, Oct. 22, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 all at 4 p.m.
