Jun 16, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — The Free Public Library continues this year’s theme of space with a special visit from the Museum of Science, and other space-related events.

On July 10, the Museum of Science will be visiting Center School on Barstow Street to present its “Night Sky” program.  Using its portable planetarium, the Museum of Science will offer tours of the solar system and beyond, and provide useful tips on how stargazers can navigate the night sky from the backyard.

The presentation will be offered twice, at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.  Space is limited to 25 participants per session, and is for children 6 and older.  Please contact the library to sign up.

On Tuesday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. join member, Roger Menard of the Astronomical Society of New England for his program, "Fly me to the Moon."  Menard will answer questions like: where did the moon come from? Why is the moon so large in the night sky? What is the ‘man in the moon’? Why do we always see only one side of the moon? What is a lunar eclipse? and How does the moon impact life on Earth? Along the way participants will discuss facts and myths related to the moon. The program is recommended for older elementary age children and their families. No registration necessary.

On Saturday, July 20, drop by the library between 10 a.m. and noon for a moon landing celebration.
