Mattapoisett man takes third in annual road race
Jul 4, 2017
Hundreds gathered in Mattapoisett Village early on Independence Day to either run in the annual July 4 Road Race or cheer runners on.
Conditions were ideal, with sunshine, a slight breeze and temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s.
"The weather is way better than last year," Race Director Bill Tilden said to the crowd, referencing the extreme heat at the 2016 race.
Taylor Days-Merrill, of Fairhaven, won the five-mile race with a time of 26:30, Dartmouth resident Michael Vaz placed second with a time of 26:47 and Mattapoisett resident Charles Berg rounded out the top three with a time of 26:58.
The top female finisher was Madeline Mondo, from Marlborough, with a time of 30:24.
