Jul 17, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — After six hours of searching, the Mattapoisett Police successfully found a senior with Alzheimer’s disease who had gone missing on July 17, thanks to a resident tip.

At about 5:40 a.m. the police received a call that the 83-year-old man was missing. The man had last been seen at midnight, and was discovered missing from the house where he was staying on Howard Beach at about 4:40 a.m. The police searched the immediate area, and called in the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Search and Rescue team to help.

A reverse 911 call was put out to residents in the Brandt Island Road area to inform them of the search and describe the missing man. Around 11:54 a.m., a resident on Kerwin Road called in a man that matched that description who was standing by a garage, by the code panel.

Officers arrived and confirmed that the man was the subject of the search. As a precaution, he was transported to a local hospital.

The Mattapoisett Police also received aid from the fire department and harbormaster’s department, Fairhaven Police, Fire and Harbormaster departments, Plymouth and Bristol County K-9s and the Coast Guard and State Police airwing divisions.
