Mattapoisett reimbursed for $185,000 of covid expenditures from county

MATTAPOISETT — To offset the cost caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the town applied for and received $185,000 of aid from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act through Plymouth County.

Rather than have the state dole out federal funding for its towns, Plymouth County individually applied for relief funding directly. The county received $90 million, and towns in the county are now receiving three times more than the towns and cities that received their CARES funding through the commonwealth.

At an Aug. 3 Selectmen’s meeting, Town Administrator Michael Lorenco said that the town successfully received two reimbursements totaling to $185,000. The town has until Dec. 31 to apply for more reimbursements where needed.

Lorenco said the town was able to submit early because the town’s accounting department and treasurer tracked covid-related expenses from the start of the pandemic.

“It’s kudos to that team for getting that hard work done,” he said.
