The Mattapoisett Road Race Committee, which sponsors the 4^th of July Road Race each year, is looking for new members.

The Race, chaired by Old Rochester Regional High School Athletic Director Bill Tilden, averages 1,000 runners and has experienced significant growth since it began in 1970 with 37 runners.

In 2012, the committee gave 12 awards of $1,500 each to students in Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester from proceeds of the Race.

For those interested in joining the group, there are five meetings a year and numerous sub-committees (ex: publicity, registration, website, t-shirt, staging, refreshments etc.).
