Mattapoisett runners complete 2024 Boston Marathon

Mattapoisett was well-represented April 15 at the 2024 Boston Marathon.
Mattapoisett resident Bethany Couto completed the 26.2-mile race with a time of 04:03:12.
Couto, 38, said she was hoping to run a little slower, as she plans to run another marathon, the Sugarloaf Marathon in Maine, next month.
“It was good,” she said. “I ended up running much faster than I wanted to, but not necessarily in a good way because I was hoping to save my legs.”
Couto said she saw some fellow Mattapoisett residents spectating, like at the 10.5-mile mark in Natick and around the Heartbreak Hill area of Newton. She also saw someone wearing a Mattapoisett shirt.
“That was fun,” Couto said.
At the 128th edition of the Boston Marathon were the most spectators Couto had seen since 2014, the year after the bombing, she said.
“It was just such a nice day,” Couto said.
Also from Mattapoisett, Jeffrey Short, 51, completed the race with a time of 04:35:39. He could not be reached for comment.
