Mattapoisett Sail’s boats look for new home

Oct 13, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett Sail President John Cornish addressed the Board of Selectmen at an Oct. 13 meeting regarding the placement of the non-profit’s boats during the off-season.

They’re currently being stored at the Holy Ghost grounds, and Cornish said he has no other place to put them.

“We really need you to let us keep doing that,” he said.

Though the board noted that the spot isn’t ideal, especially when events are held nearby, they began to work out a solution for the storage of Mattapoisett Sail’s boats.

“As long as we have the proper coverages and the proper documentation, we should be fine,” Vice Chair Jordan Collyer said.

But Chair Paul Silva offered up another solution to keep the boats stored, but get them off the Holy Ghost grounds.

“Maybe we could make it a semi-permanent home and put it where we keep all the boats,” Silva said.

Town Administrator Michael Lorenco said he would look into the logistics of using the yard where the town stores its boats for Mattapoisett Sail.

“Let’s just try and find a place that won’t change that much in the foreseeable future,” Silva said.
