Mattapoisett school to hold Sandy relief fundraiser
Mattapoisett second grade teacher Maria Tomon is a woman on a mission.
A native of New York, Tomon received permission from the Mattapoisett School Committee to hold a fundraiser for those who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey.
The fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, November 20, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. outside of the Center School in Mattapoisett. There will be a U-Haul truck that Tomon and volunteers will use to collect donations. The volunteers will in turn bring all donated items to those states that were hammered by Sandy last week.
The School Committee unanimously approved the fundraiser on Monday night and commended Tomon’s efforts on behalf of the victims of Sandy.
Of the fundraiser, Tomon said she was grateful for the chance to give back to her native community as well as the surrounding areas.
“This really means a lot to me and my family,” Tomon said.
