Mattapoisett schools see improved computer access

Soon, students in grades three to six will each have daily access to Chromebooks.

“We’ve tried to improve technology across the district,” Superintendent Doug White said at the Mattapoisett School Committee meeting on Monday.

The school is in the process of purchasing 348 Chromebooks to add to 150 of the laptops purchased last year. Students in all grades will have access to them, with the goal to eventually have one to one access for all grades.

With an increase in technology, the school also increased the infrastructure so the Internet can be used in every corner of the school. The improved capacity should help come in handy for standardized testing.

Assistant Principal Kevin Tavares said the computer lab shut down last year while students were taking the new PARCC test.

“This is going to take us to the next level in regards to technology,” he said. “This is going to be a great addition moving forward.”

Tavares also said teachers can provide more feedback in real time for students as they use Google Apps for projects.
