Mattapoisett Select Board closes Town Meeting warrant, to include more than 20 items

MATTAPOISETT — The agenda for the approaching Mattapoisett Town Meeting will have 22 items for town residents to vote on.

The warrant for Town Meeting was closed by the Mattapoisett Select Board Tuesday, April 9.

Among the 22 agenda items to be voted on is the town budget of Mattapoisett, which is currently balanced and does not use stabilization funds — money set aside in savings accounts — according to Town Administrator Mike Lorenco.

“Pretty much level service, level budget,” Lorenco said.

Included in the budget are two vehicle purchases for the Highway Department, which will represent an impact of roughly $100,000, Lorenco said.

Among other notable items within the Mattapoisett budget is trash collection, which is “up significantly,” Lorenco said, due to renegotiated contracts, after the town’s contract expired with Harvey Waste and Recycling Services. That represents an impact of about $130,000, Lorenco said.

School costs have also increased due to renegotiated transportation contracts, according to Lorenco.

Mattapoisett Town Meeting will be held Monday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Old Rochester Regional High School.
