Mattapoisett Selectmen approve license transfer for Marion Road dealership
The only thing that will change at the used car dealership located at 79 Marion Road is the owner, Selectmen learned on Monday night.
Board members unanimously approved — with conditions — transferring the property's Class II Auto Dealers License from its previous owner, Kevin Ducharme, of 508 Sport and Luxury Vehicles, to Hatem El Rifai.
"There's no balloons or distractions of any kind allowed," said Selectman Jordan Collyer before the vote.
Ducharme started selling cars at the lot in 2015. There have been no complaints in that time, he said.
Ducharme added that when he opened the used car dealership there were questions if the business would be viable, which proved to be unfounded.
"We weren't sure if there was going to be a need for it, but there does seem to be a big need," said Ducharme.
Before submitting the request for the license transfer, Ducharme said he made it a point to observe El Rifai at work.
"I don't want to say I was giving [El Rifai] a job interview, but I was," said Ducharme, who operates another dealership in New Bedford.
El Rifai currently owns and operates a Getty Station authorized to sell used cars at 371 Huttleston Ave. in Fairhaven.
The license allows El Rifai to have up to 25 cars on the lot.
