Mattapoisett Selectmen discuss flags and war memorials
Ned’s Point is likely to get a new light soon, not on the lighthouse, but on the American flag.
Selectmen discussed what to do with the area at Veteran’s Memorial Park after receiving a suggestion that two flagpoles be added, one with the town flag and one with the state flag.
While that idea failed to gain much traction, Steve Ruel, who donated the existing flag pole in memory of his father several years ago, said he wanted to see a better light on Old Glory.
“We need to get that light fixed by the Fourth of July,” said Selectman Jordan Collyer.
The board agreed to have the matter looked into and also said more needed to be done at the war memorials beside the library. The memorials stop at World War I, and there was an original plan to honor veterans of all wars on the site.
