Mattapoisett Skate Park cleanup scheduled for Saturday
Trash has been piling up beside the Mattapoisett Skate Park, and at Tuesday’s Selectmen meeting Jodi Bauer says it’s time to clean it up.
Located next to the police station, Capt. Anthony Days told Bauer, a founder of the park, that plastic had collected along one fence.
“It didn’t happen just this year, it’s been years,” said Bauer.
She volunteered to clear the brush and briars along the fence, but said she needs recycling bins to pick up the water and sports drink bottles and other plastic that has collected there. Bauer also intends to get the kids and teens who use the park to help.
“I could probably go in there and do it in two hours myself, but I want to get the children that are involved helping,” she said.
Selectman Jordan Collyer suggested closing the park during the hours the cleanup is scheduled, and if no one shows up to help, to keep it locked until it’s clean.
“It’s like anything, there has to be a consequence for it,” he said.
Bauer will hold the clean up on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
